East High School
This was also a summertime remodel with a 66 day construction schedule. The scope of work included asbestos abatement, southwest entry remodel, administrative office remodel, and the nurse’s station. The summer work was delivered on schedule, and the administrative office was delivered ahead of schedule. During construction demolition, it was discovered the existing structure did not meet fire code. RHC was able to design-assist to resolve the fire code issues while staying within schedule. RHC anticipated the challenges, conceptually visualized and analyzed the potential courses of action, and made correct decisions early to successfully expedited delivery of this project. Our "brain trust” of seasoned Project Managers and Superintendents thrive in this challenging climate. While expedited delivery methods shorten the estimated time for projects, we remain committed and focused on quality. Construction schedules span weeks, even months, and our products perform for decades. The ASD’s construction department relies significantly on expedited delivery and RHC is proud to have met and exceeded expectations at East High School.

Kodiak Police Station and Jail, Kodiak, AK
This project included a 28,030 SF, state-of-the-art Police Station and Jail in Kodiak, Alaska. Work included excavation and backfill for new building and sitework. The new building’s concrete foundation was constructed on over 225 steel pilings with structural steel braced frames. The exterior included metal panels and masonry veneer, with insulated built-up asphalt roofing assembly. The enclosed interior spaces included a public lobby, police administrative areas, emergency operations center, evidence areas, locker rooms, vehicle bays and support spaces. Due to the type of facility, the security systems within the building included intrusion detection, panel alarm, video surveillance, access control, audio threshold alarm, visitor communication and audio/video recording systems for interview rooms. Since this project was replacing the current police station and jail, it was extremely important to ensure the coordination with the existing jail and transfer of security and inmates. This building is LEED Certified.

Service High School Renewal Phase 2B
The ASD sets an aggressive schedule for major summertime remodels at the local schools. This particular construction project had only 66 days available for completion. The project consisted of remodeling 25,000 SF of existing school area (NB Hall) and adding a 14,400 SF 2nd story with a new 3rd-story penthouse (Building “D”). The scope of work for NB Hall incorporated asbestos abatement, roofing, new skylights, & a total interior demolition and reconstruction that encompassed 43,000 SF. Despite the tight schedule, changes in work scope during the project, unknown and hidden conditions that added more work, RHC still completed the job on time. As a bonus, Building “D” was delivered 4 months ahead of schedule. RHC is proud to have exceeded expectations at Service High School. RHC was sensitive to the potential disruption to school operations and made every effort to meet the schedule in the face of the challenges. The Alaska chapter of Associated General Contractors presented RHC the Excellence in Construction Award for this project – “2007 Challenge of a Job, Between $5,000,000 and $15,000,000 Vertical Construction.”
