This 5,000
square foot remodel was especially challenging because the medical facility
was kept fully operational while abating asbestos, replacing the building's
main electrical service, installing new rooftop air handling equipment
and ductwork and retrofitting new X ray equipment in the building.
In order to minimize disruptions the project was broken down into two
phases. Exam beds and equipment had to be temporarily relocated in order
for the Doctors and Medical staff to continue to see their patients.
The reception area was relocated three times during the remodel.
Asbestos was present in flooring, wall coverings and insulation. After
material abatement and subsequent demolition, it was discovered that
some bearing walls had previously been removed. Beams and columns had
to be added and modified in order to adequately support the second floor
and roof. This task was complicated by existing piping, ducts and wiring
in the area.
Another challenging aspect of the project was remodeling the existing
X ray rooms. New state of the art X ray equipment replaced existing
equipment. Several walls had to be left out in order to install the
new equipment. After the new, very sensitive equipment was installed
it was protected from dust and the construction completed around it.
The project was completed on time and within budget with minimal disruption
to the Medical Park's operations.
